What sets this ski area apart
Schwarzsee belongs to the municipality of Plaffeien and runs along the western and northern shore of the lake of the same name, with the districts of Bad, Pürrena and Gypsera. Downstream flows the Warme Sense, which joins the Kalte Sense at Zollhaus and from there forms the border between Fribourg and Bern.
Until the eighteenth century hardly anyone knew the lake apart from the owners of the pastures, the herdsmen and the woodcutters. That changed when, around 1750, the Alps were discovered, having previously been feared and avoided. In 1777 the fisherman Peter Schuwey of Plaffeien bought the Ramserli pasture with its sulphur springs and in 1784 built the first bath house at the Schwarzsee. The district is still called Bad, the bath.
The ski area on the Kaiseregg is the largest in the Fribourg Sense district and at the same time the nearest one for the city of Fribourg and for Bern. The base sits low, and in mild winters that is noticeable.
