Where can you ski in summer?
Right now exactly one area carries summer skiing in the Alps: Stilfserjoch / Passo dello Stelvio. In the 1970s the lifts turned on dozens of glaciers in July.

Why there is so little left
What matters for summer skiing is not the air temperature at the summit but whether a load-bearing layer of snow lies on the ice, and that layer is disappearing earlier every year. The Swiss glacier area roughly halved between 1973 and 2016; since 2000 the Alpine glaciers have lost two to three per cent of their volume annually, against about one per cent before. Once bare ice is exposed, crevasses open, and no piste can be safely groomed over open crevasses.
