What sets this ski area apart
Zuoz lies in the Upper Engadine and is the centre of the historic La Plaiv region. The old village core climbs the slope of the Munt Albanas as a cluster of houses, and it counts as one of the best-preserved Engadine village centres anywhere.
The village long carried political weight. It was here that the Planta family established the dominance in the Upper Engadine that lasted until 1798, and in the sixteenth century one of the first Romansh plays was premiered on the village square. On the Chastlatsch hill there was already a settlement in the late Bronze and Iron Ages.
Zuoz became a school centre from 1904 with the founding of the Lyceum Alpinum. The ski area is small and stands in the shadow of the big Engadine names; people who ski here usually do so because they live here, or because Corviglia is too busy.
