What sets this ski area apart
Les Marécottes lies at 1110 metres in the Vallée du Trient near Martigny and belongs to the municipality of Salvan. The village is served by the Martigny to Chamonix railway, which is unusually good for an area of this size: you step off the train and you are in the village.
The gondola runs up to La Creusaz at 1777 metres on the southern flank of the Luisin. The ski area above is small, but it has one of the finer views in the Lower Valais, looking straight at the Mont Blanc massif.
The village is also known for two things outside the ski season: an Alpine zoo and a natural swimming pool built into the rock. Both carry the place through the summer, which for an area this size is a matter of survival.
