What sets this ski area apart
Villars-sur-Ollon sits at 1300 metres, 900 metres above the Rhone valley in the Chablais, and has been connected to the rail network since 1901 by the Bex-Villars-Bretaye railway. That is unusual: most Vaud resorts are reached only by road or bus.
The village has an international character that goes back to 1910, when the Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil was founded, a boarding school with a strong sports programme whose pupils are still part of the street scene. Villars has sporting history too: the Villars HC were Swiss ice hockey champions in 1963 and 1964.
More recently the resort has turned to ski mountaineering, hosting the 2019 World Championship and the event at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics. The Col de la Croix gives a direct road link to Les Diablerets in summer; in winter the pass road is closed.
