What sets this ski area apart
The Chäserrugg is the easternmost of the seven Churfirsten and, at 2261 metres, strictly speaking not a summit of its own: its prominence over the neighbouring Hinterrugg is only 14 metres. It is reached from Unterwasser via the Iltios funicular and onward by gondola. The summit building is a 2015 replacement designed by Herzog & de Meuron.
One warning worth taking seriously: the ridge around the Chäserrugg is karst terrain with holes and fissures that are invisible under snow. The signs asking skiers to stay on the piste are not a formality.
Since 2020 this area has been separate from neighbouring Wildhaus, because the two cableway companies parted ways. Anyone expecting one continuous Toggenburg ski area will today find two.
